“Swivel” – the 2020 Quiltmania Mystery BoM Quilt

The 2020 Quiltmania Mystery Quilt was designed and created by multi-talented Sarah Maxwell – designer for Marcus Fabrics, pattern designer, author and co-owner of Homestead Hearth patchwork store in Mexico, Missouri.

Sarah created a beautiful mystery quilt using her latest Marcus Fabrics collection – “Full Circle”. The collection builds on the inspiration she drew from various sources, including Judie Rothermel’s vast archive of prints, in combination with a desire to inject a vibrant, more contemporary palette into a line of reproduction fabrics.

And of course, there is an exclusive “mystery” fabric which is only available through distributors of the fabric kits.

Somerset Patchwork is delighted to be the sole Australian distributor of the fabric kits for the 2020 Mystery Block of the Month Quilt program.

The quilt features the shapes in the image at left as part of the design and when finished, will measure approximately 74″ square.

The pattern is suitable for hand piecing, or rotary cutting and machine piecing – or a mix of techniques as suits you.

The pattern is only available through Quiltmania’s 6 issues published through 2020, which include all the required templates for the quilt.

The details –

The fabric kit is priced at $432.00. The fabrics provided will make the complete quilt top, including the binding and will be exactly the same as those used in Sarah’s original quilt.

“Bathwick” – the 2018 Quiltmania Mystery BoM Quilt – Complete fabric kits available

The 2018 Quiltmania Mystery Quilt was designed and created by our very own Karen Styles, using Karen’s fabric collection of the same name.

The BoM program may have finished, but we are pleased to announce that we have complete fabric kits available, comprising the same “Bathwick” fabrics used in the program. So if you would like to make this beautiful quilt, it is still possible to do so. 2018 subscribers to Quiltmania magazine will already have the pattern, but if you don’t have the magazines, the complete pattern in booklet form is available through our online store.

The quilt incorporates hand or machine piecing, English paper piecing and appliqué.

The details –

The fabric kit is priced at $462.00. The fabrics provided will make the complete quilt top, including the binding and will be exactly the same as those used in Karen’s original quilt. Included with the kit is a pack of 300 English Paper Piecing hexagon shapes.

  • Templates – as an optional aid to cutting and piecing your quilt, we have our “Bathwick” custom-made acrylic templates set available – priced at $30.00 per set.
  • “Bathwick” backing fabric – 4.50 metres, as chosen by Karen Styles and displayed below. Ordering 4.50m of this fabric with your fabric kit costs $99.50 (a saving of 15% on the retail price).
