Summer School Classes - January 2014

We are pleased to offer our Summer School program again this year. We have put together a range of classes which we hope will entice you to start a new project, learn something new, perhaps hone existing skills or just simply get together with like-minded patchworkers for a few hours of pleasant relaxation. The classes cater to beginners through to the more advanced and bookings are now open. Class samples are on display in the shop.

Saturday 11th January
10am - 3pm

“Basic Beginners Machine Piecing " with Karen Styles
Learn the basics of machine piecing and rotary cutting in this intensive one-day workshop. This class is excellent for beginners or great for fine-tuning your cutting and machine piecing skills.

Tuesday 14th January
10am - 3pm

“Hand Quilting Basics " with Julie Adamson
In this much requested technique class Julie will show you the finer points of hand quilting and help you complete that growing pile of quilt tops! Julie has won numerous awards both here and interstate and has a wide knowledge of many styles of hand quilting.
(Class fee includes a starter kit)

Wednesday 15th January
10am - 4pm

“Lucy Boston " with Karen and Sue
Discover the fun of this intriguing block using either English paper piecing, as the original was made, OR traditional hand piecing. Play with fussy cutting and colour placement to create some amazing blocks!

Thursday 16th January
10am - 4pm
“Sit and Stitch" with Karen Styles
Have you started or would you like to start Mrs Billings, Robins Nest or one of our other Somerset Designs and need a little help? Bring along your chosen project and get stitching! The focus of this week’s class will be on hand piecing using templates, colour choice and problem solving piecing techniques.  
Tuesday 21st January
10am - 3pm
“Needleturn Appliqué" with Julie Adamson
Learn the finer points of Needleturn Appliqué in this one-day technique class with Julie. This class is for intermediate to advanced quilters or brave beginners!
(Class fee includes acrylic template set)
Wednesday 22nd January
10am - 4pm
“Dear Jane " with Linda Bear
This intensive one-day workshop is for all lovers of Dear Jane. Bring along your Jane and share the journey with fellow stitchers and catch up on where you all are now! Haven’t started yet? Linda will show you the tricks to making your very own quilt.
(Each class member must have their own copy of the Dear Jane book by Brenda Papadakis)
Thursday 23rd January
10am - 4pm
“Sit and Stitch" with Karen Styles
This week’s focus for sit and stitch will be English Paper Piecing. Choose to continue with last weeks project or start something new, maybe Clamshells or our new hexagon quilt!
Sunday 2nd February
10am - 4pm
“1st Sunday Social Group"
On the 1st Sunday of each month throughout the year we hold a hand sewing/appliqué interest group here at Somerset. Would you like to join us? Bring along whatever you are working on, we would love to see you there!
Bookings for this event are essential.
Saturday 8th February
Midday to Midnight
“Midday to Midnight Madness " with Karen Styles
Come along to Somerset for a 12 hour sewing marathon! Bring along your new or old projects and meet with like minded friends to chat and sew the day (and night) away!
Bookings are essential.

Class Booking Policy & Registration:

Class fees are required in full at the time of booking. Phone bookings are acceptable and will be held for 1 week; your class fee must be paid in full by the end of that time to guarantee your place.

All classes need a minimum of 4 people to proceed; we suggest that you only purchase your final requirements when the class is confirmed. Please phone to see how the bookings are going.

No refund will be given if you cancel within two weeks before a class, unless a replacement student can be found.

We offer a 10% discount on the purchase of goods for your class, once your class fee is paid in full.
